The atmospheric novel of the young British writer Alex George tells about one day in the life of four Parisians in the fall of 1927. Before us appear a devoted maid, an Armenian refugee-puppeteer, a talented artist in love and a popular journalist. A capricious fate brings them together, as well as with Marcel Proust and Maurice Ravel, Gertrude Stein, Josephine Baker and Ernest Hemingway. But the shine of the stars of Paris at that time is completely overshadowed by the drama of "ordinary" human destinies, because each of them is full of such losses that it deserves a separate story.
