In the beliefs of proto-Ukrainians, the world was not clearly divided into the visible, natural, and the invisible, supernatural. People worshiped the gods, trying to win their favor, and at the same time communicated with beings of a lower order. Our ancient ancestors honored trees and grasses, springs and rivers, mountains and steppes, forests and fields, and inhabited them with whimsical magical creatures called spirits. Ancient Ukrainians personified winds, storms, rains, snowfalls, seasons and other atmospheric and natural phenomena.
